Interesting News Night

Was driving home listening to NPR and heard two stories back-to-back that grabbed my attention.

First, some guy jumped off the Aurora bridge in Seattle. If that wasn't bad enough, he hit some power lines on the way down, caused a nearby transformer to explode and knocked out power to a small chunk of Fremont.

Second, the residence hall at my former college was evacuated today when the custodian found a duct-tape-wrapped pipe bomb. Damn engineering students, always wanting to blow stuff up.

Oh, and the most awesome tesla coil I've ever seen is up for sale on Ebay, if you've got a spare 14 grand lying around. The description is hilarious.

The Seattle Times ran a piece awhile ago about the number of suicides happening off the Aurora bridge. It's been going on for years, apparently, but is becoming a problem now because of all the office buildings that have been built up below it...companies have had to bring in trauma counselors to talk with employees after they've seen somebody die right in front of their office. One guy hit the hood of some woman's car as she was driving into work.

Hey, also, what's the story with your being-restored-bug? Wasn't it supposed to be done by now?
